A traditional step-down transformer based 12V switched power supply. The switched power supply uses established PSU technology to provide a smoothed power supply suitable for all laboratory applications which require a rugged source of emf at either AC or DC.
An internal mechanism disconnects the output when the voltage setting is changed ensuring that the switch contacts are protected from overload. The unit can also be locked at any setting by means of an Allen screw located on the front panel.
Over current protection is by means of a front panel thermal trip.
As with all Lascells Power Supplies in the range the 12V Switched power supply is housed in a robust powder coated case with integral carrying handle and is sized such that 4 can be carried in a single storage tray.
Outputs
A.C. is available from the two yellow sockets on the front panel.
D.C. is available from the black (negative) and red (positive) sockets on the front panel.
An internal mechanism disconnects the output when the voltage setting is changed ensuring that the switch contacts are protected from overload. The selector switch values are nominal only and indicate the output voltage at maximum output current which should not exceed 5A.
For continuous use the maximum output current should not exceed 4A. At lower output currents the voltages supplied by the unit will be greater than the marked value. This variation is more pronounced on D.C and is approximately 130% of the marked value for 1A outputs except on the 2V range which is less than 2V on D.C.
The D.C. outputs are capacitor smoothed. The ripple content increases with increased output current.
The output voltage can be locked at any required value by inserting the long locking screw in the front panel using the Allen key provided. Students should be instructed not to try and turn the control knob when the locking screw is in place. A shorter blanking screw is provided to cover the hole should the locking screw not be required.
